The latest MFT challenge looks like ocean waves, which reminded me of fifth grade, when we spent a good part of the year studying cetaceans, culminating in a whale watch field trip. These whale stickers have been in the stash since that time. I do not own any hillside or other asymmetrical dies (if I ever win one of these challenges, that could change), so I printed the MFT sketch and used it as a template to cut the waves. A little foam tape under the waves enabled the whales to be partially submerged in the waters, just peeking out to say hello!

The MFT design team members examined this week's card challenge and saw hillsides and fluffy clouds, but it looked like celestial bodies to me. A few stitched circle dies, some Tim Holtz space dies, and a few self-adhesive rhinestones are the principal components.
I still haven't tried any of the scrapbook layouts from National Scrapbook Day, but here is another card based on a sketch, this time by A Cherry on Top. The sentiment actually came from a set of envelope liner dies, so it also works for the latest Stay Crafty with Hero challenge, "Out of the Box"! The floral background and pink and purple papers were all leftovers from other projects, so it also contributed to my personal goal of actually using up scraps once in a while.
This one turned out surprisingly well, so I might make a whole set of cards using this design at some point. I celebrated this auspicious holiday by commenting on a lot of giveaway posts, knitting for several hours, doing a Zoom yoga class. . .and making one card based on a Doodlebug sketch. I like how the flower looks almost like a sun shining on all the happy little gnomes. Most of the card and scrapbook layout challenges that were published today last for several more days, so there are plenty of ready-made options for next week's papercrafting sessions!
Having examined the MFT sketch of the week, I rifled through a collection of circles from the 12x12 Gold Glam paper pad akin to the one that has been used up. This rose looked like a good place to start, but by the time the card was complete, the rose had been fussy-cut, shedding its circular frame and an annoying leaf that seemed to be rotated the wrong way, and the two circles had mutated into two hearts. I quite like gold foil on cards, but it never looks as good in photographs, at least the quick snaps that usually end up on this blog. Still, it was a good mental exercise to make a card so different from my usual symmetrical style.
Hero Arts is celebrating self care this week. One good self-care practice is to remember all the good things in life and express gratitude for them, so here is my "thankful" card design. We're still celebrating Autumn in April over here. . .next thing you know, I will be making pumpkin muffins and peppermint marshmallows! The back of the flipping element just has a cream-colored bumpy circle, left blank for a personal message. Sometimes I put something exciting back there, but it's kind of nice to have the inscription on the flip side, too.
Things tend to get out of hand when I use the Stephanie Barnard drop-in dies. Since I used both foam squares and pearls on the flowers, this will be a hand-delivered birthday card--too thick to navigate the postal service safely!
