Inspired by a sketch challenge from Scrapbook & Cards Today, this card incorporates several patterns from a Craft Smart Love Letter paper pad I bought at Michaels last year, plus some solid cardstock and a sticker of unknown origin. The pink lacy strips (produced with an edge die) are my favorite part, because somehow they make the whole design work.

Our family has a lot of summer celebrations on the calendar, so I used the latest MFT sketch as inspiration for a birthday card. The word and polka dot papers have been in the stash for ages--they were in a 6x6 paper pad that I think came from Target clearance! Regular readers of this blog will recognize the versatile Sizzix balloon triplits, here with the star insert to coordinate with the star embossing folder and hint at patriotism and warm summer nights.
Welcome to the next stop on the Papercrafters Unite Against Racism blog hop. For more information about this event, please visit Justine Hovey's post. The many factors which divide us are actually much more superficial than those we share. Despite all of the things that differentiate us - race, language, religion, gender, wealth and so on - we are all equal concerning our fundamental humanity. ~ Dalai Lama ~ I used the Spellbinders Flutter Tree die set to create this card. It is my prayer that all people will embrace the truth of our fundamental equality as human beings. The next stop on the Blog Hop is Karen's Kreative Kards.
What kind of birthday card do you make for a professional musician? Here is one possibility: The music dies are by Lawn Fawn and are extremely cute and very tiny. The cake is from a Sizzix Triplit layer cake set, and the embossing folder is from Spellbinders. The green tablecloth strip was embossed by hand--my scoring board came with a triangle for making envelopes, so it was easy to score at a 45-degree angle.
The latest MFT challenge looks like ocean waves, which reminded me of fifth grade, when we spent a good part of the year studying cetaceans, culminating in a whale watch field trip. These whale stickers have been in the stash since that time. I do not own any hillside or other asymmetrical dies (if I ever win one of these challenges, that could change), so I printed the MFT sketch and used it as a template to cut the waves. A little foam tape under the waves enabled the whales to be partially submerged in the waters, just peeking out to say hello!
This one is not for a challenge or contest or anything; just for a birthday girl or boy who loves space!
My charming niece came over for forty-eight hours of crafts, conversation, and lots and lots of snacks. Here are some of the things that she did during her visit: She also had a piano lesson, baked brownies, learned how to hunt like a mountain lion and protect cubs like a mama wolf, and ate plenty of pizza, pasta, and pancakes! I hope she will come over again some time. :)
