This recipe came from King Arthur Flour. I used whole wheat flour instead of white and doubled the butter in the streusel so that it would actually be crumbs, not a loose mixture of flour and sugar. Instead of granulated sugar, I used raw cane sugar, because Wholesome sent me some a while ago and it needs to be enjoyed! The recipe did recommend adding maple extract for a more intense maple flavor. I would agree that it is very subtle without the extract, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

In January, I stumbled across the ABC Christmas Challenge, which has monthly alphabetical card challenges. I share the philosophy that it is easier to make a few Christmas cards periodically than to do many at once, so it has been fun to check out the blog and try to come up with things that fit the categories. This one was initially designed to fit G is for Gold, but it also qualifies as F is for Freebie. The Christmas tree nesting die set was a Christmas present. When I opened it, we discovered that Amazon had accidentally sent two sets of the dies, because the packaging had stuck together. The customer service representative told me to keep the second set, which has been very convenient for cutting out lots of trees at once! I'm assuming that the trees for this card and its twin were cut using one of the free dies. :)
A happy little card for a happy little girl's birthday! This fulfills the conditions for this month's Birthday Project Challenge (create a birthday card with hearts), and the sentiment strip also qualifies for my Use It Up Challenge, which was on hiatus during Solo & Ensemble season. With this morning's card, that's three in one day--a new record! Hooray for Spring Break crafting!
This took far longer than expected, but now I have a card to send to someone spacey. Maybe next time I will not wait until three hours before the deadline to make a card for a sketch challenge!
Sometimes, you just need glitter. I used double-sided tape to adhere relatively tidy stripes of each color to a 4x5.25" piece of white cardstock. The "Yay!" came from a birthday paper pack that I received as a gift. It is mounted on purple cardstock and attached to the glitter panel with foam tape. The whole thing was attached to a pink card base to complete this birthday card designed for a friend famous for her "confetti alert!" mail. Despite following recommended procedures to contain the mess, there is now glitter all over the craft room and me, but it was worth it!
These chocolate quinoa protein bites were almost great. The recipe went together quickly, and I finished a canister of chocolate soy powder making them, which felt like an added bonus. Instead of chopped nuts, I added a few miniature chocolate chips, because these things had plenty of protein already. Unfortunately, despite all the other ingredients, the quinoa flavor is still noticeable in these bites, especially in the aftertaste. Most of the bites are in the freezer at the moment, but I might thaw them and roll them in sanding sugar or powdered sugar or organic turbinado sugar and see if that improves the gustatory experience at all. Next time, it's back to the brownie bites recipe, or else I will use this one and substitute oats for the quinoa.
